Meet Camille, a cybersecurity architect at Airbus

Hear from Camille

Camille works as a cybersecurity analyst at Airbus. She joined us to discuss her professional path, the projects she works on in her current role, the challenges she has encountered and what she loves most about her job. She also gives some advice for people who would like to work in cybersecurity.

What is your professional journey? 

After high school, I was uncertain about my career path,  so I enrolled in a general engineering school because I felt I was comfortable with scientific subjects. I then chose to specialise in computer science, drawn by its promising prospects and career growth opportunities. To further specialise, I completed a master's degree in cybersecurity.

Following my studies, I gained valuable career experience working in SOC, NOC, integration and technical auditing. I was fortunate to have inspiring managers early in my career, to support my growth and encouraged me to believe in myself. 

I then joined an OIV to completely overhaul their cybersecurity. This unique challenge exposed me to new aspects of the job including project management, large-scale international deployment and demanding industrial environments. 

This experience lead me to join  Airbus Cybersecurity as an architect, a logical next step in my career. I’ve now been part of the team for over two years.

What is your job within Airbus?

As part of my job, I engage with clients from the tender process right through to the operation of systems for our state and European clients. This involves designing, developing, integrating and ultimately operating these systems. Based on each client's specific needs, I define and envision a solution that meets all their requirements while considering operational, functional, budgetary and technical constraints to find the optimal solution.

What do you appreciate the most about your job?

What I enjoy about my job is the opportunity to create something new with each tender and project with a solution that is tailored to each client’s needs. I also appreciate the challenge of refining these solutions to ensure they perfectly meet the client's requirements. I value the autonomy I have in making technical decisions, while being part of a large organisation.

What challenges did you face when you entered the cybersecurity field?

Cybersecurity is a highly competitive and constantly evolving field, where we’re always pushed to go further. Like everyone starting out, I had to prove myself, in what normally is a traditional male-dominiated industry. Personally, I've never felt any difference from my colleagues. I've always been supported with kindness and without distinction compared to my male colleagues.

What advice would you give to people wishing to work in the cybersecurity domain?

My advice would be the same as I would have given to my teenage self: dare to try.  No one is born an expert in cybersecurity, some have been passionate about it for years, which is wonderful. However, anyone with motivation can succeed in.cybersecurity. The field benefits from diversity, as we can each bring our knowledge, skills, perspectives and experiences to the table.
